Carpenter Ants

Carpenter Ants

About this project

Carpenter ants are the largest ant species ranging rom 1/2″ to 3/8″ in length and found throughout the Bay Area. Black is the most common color found in the United States; however a few species have reddish or yellowish tints. A carpenter ants’ primary food source is basically what we eat. They are particularly fond of anything sweet, even meats.

Unlike house ants who are underground, carpenter ants tunnel and nest in wood. Their tunnels are excavated in the wood with a sandpaper like appearance. Ironically carpenter ants don’t eat wood. Carpenter ants will eat other insects as well, so if you’re noticing parts of other insects in combination with sawdust like material & winged ants in your home, it may be sign of an infestation.

Day & Nite Pest Control treats carpenter ants differently then house ants mainly because spraying has no effect on the Queen Carpenter Ant. If you reside in the Bay Area and think you have a carpenter ant problem, Contact us today!

Distinguishing Characteristics:
These are among the largest of ants and are vicious biters. Workers vary greatly in size, but the queen is easy to spot because she has wings. Usually they are black, but may have some brown coloration. They’re long-legged and move swiftly.
